Build a professional CV — free, and completely private

CV Maker is a resume and cover letter builder that runs entirely in your browser. No account, no backend, no upload — your CV never leaves your device.

What is CV Maker?

CV Maker is a free, privacy-first resume and cover letter builder that works in your browser. It provides five ATS-friendly templates, a local keyword check, searchable PDF output, and an optional bring-your-own-key AI assistant. No account is required, and resume data is stored on your device instead of a CV Maker server.

Everything you need to land the interview

  • 5 ATS-friendly templates

Classic, Modern, Sidebar, Compact, and Executive — switch anytime without losing your content, with a live paginated preview.

  • ATS Check

Paste a job description and get a local, offline keyword match score — no AI, no data sent anywhere.

  • Optional AI Assistant

Rewrite or generate resume and cover letter content with your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini API key — entirely opt-in.

  • Folders & organization

Keep every version of your CV organized in a nested folder tree, searchable by title.

  • Real, searchable PDFs

"Save as PDF" uses your browser's native print engine — a real, selectable PDF, not a screenshot.

  • Import / export JSON

Move a CV between browsers or back it up with a human-readable JSON file, anytime.

How it works

  1. Fill in your details

Use the guided wizard or jump straight into the full editor.

  2. Pick a template & tailor it

Match it to a job description, add a cover letter, and check your ATS score.

  3. Print or save as PDF

Download a real, searchable PDF straight from your browser — ready to send.

Your data stays yours

  • Every CV is stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB) — nothing is ever uploaded.
  • No account, no tracking, no analytics.
  • The only feature that talks to a server is the optional AI Assistant, and only once you turn it on with your own API key.

Frequently asked questions

Is CV Maker really free?

Yes. The resume builder, templates, ATS check, local storage, JSON backup, and PDF printing are free. The optional AI assistant uses your own provider API key, so that provider may charge for its API usage.

Where does CV Maker store my resume?

CV Maker stores resume content in IndexedDB inside your browser. It does not upload resumes to a CV Maker server. Clearing browser site data deletes that local copy, so export important resumes as JSON backups.

Does the ATS check send my resume anywhere?

No. The ATS check compares your resume and job description locally using keyword extraction and a bundled ESCO-derived skills taxonomy. Its score is guidance, not a guarantee of how an employer's ATS will rank an application.

Does the AI assistant receive my entire resume?

Only when you enable an AI provider and request an AI action. The relevant text and optional job description are sent directly from your browser to your selected provider under that provider's terms; the request does not pass through a CV Maker server.

Are exported PDFs searchable and ATS-readable?

CV Maker uses the browser's native print engine, producing text that is normally selectable and searchable rather than a screenshot. ATS behavior varies by employer, so always review the exported PDF before applying.

Can I move a resume to another browser or device?

Yes. Export the resume as a human-readable JSON file and import it in the other browser. Profile photos are stored separately and must be uploaded again after importing.
